Patina LIMEWASH Finish: The Perfect Finish for Brick

Patina LIMEWASH Finish: The Perfect Finish for Brick

Transform your brick surfaces with a timeless, weathered charm

Patina is the perfect finish for brick, giving a fresh look to façades, fireplaces, or interior brick walls. It develops a patina over time, creating a unique finish reminiscent of the old houses of Europe. AUTENTIC Lime Paint for PATINA finish is breathable, highly UV-resistant, and long-lasting.

Patina Limewash Finish will last approximately five years. After this period, the color remains but may begin to patina due to climatic conditions, yielding a beautiful weathered finish that can last for decades.

Lime plasters have the ability to wick away moisture. Lime absorbs humidity and gradually diffuses it to the exterior, making weathered walls more resistant. It acts like a sponge, effectively absorbing water vapors.

Brick and Limewash Paint: An Effective Marriage

  • Absorption and Breathability: The porous nature of brick allows for effective absorption of lime paint, creating a strong chemical bond. This enhances durability while allowing walls to regulate humidity naturally.
  • Moisture Prevention: Lime paint allows moisture to evaporate through brick walls, reducing condensation and mold risks—especially beneficial in humid environments.
  • Weather Resistance: Outdoors, lime paint forms a protective, breathable layer that resists weather conditions, protecting bricks from water damage and temperature variations.
  • Ease of Maintenance: Lime paint ages gracefully and can be easily touched up. A new layer can be applied directly over the old one without extensive preparation.

Easy Application

Patina Limewash is easy to apply. A single layer can create an authentic limewash finish. No primer is needed for unpainted, absorbent brick, stone, or other masonry surfaces—just clean and dampen the masonry before painting.

If the bricks or stones are previously painted or treated with non-lime products, we recommend using our MULTI lime primer before applying AUTENTIC Lime Paint. Both products are suitable for exterior and interior brick or stone surfaces.

Since the paint won’t appear fully opaque initially, wait for it to dry completely before assessing the final color and opacity. Unlike other paints, limewash penetrates the surface, and the color and opacity can be built up with successive coats. Limewash creates a durable finish that won’t peel or chip over time.

Easy Removal

AUTENTIC Lime Paint can be wiped, brushed, or washed off with water (or a vinegar-water solution) immediately after application. Using a pressure washer, the entire application can be removed up to two days following the initial application.

Opaque or Light Finish

Light Look: PATINA finish is an opaque finish. If you wish to expose some of the brick or stone, start wiping or washing off some of the limewash while it’s still wet—about 30 minutes after application, depending on weather conditions. Remove earlier if exposed to sun and high temperatures.

Opaque Look: For a matte, mineral, lightly textured, and fully opaque finish, apply two coats for the best results.

Colours

We’ve handpicked the perfect colors for PATINA finishes to enhance façades, fireplaces, or cozy interiors. These shades are soft, warm, and timeless, evoking the beauty of natural stone. Darker colors can create rich, inviting atmospheres, adding depth and sophistication to your interior spaces.

Tips for Application

  • Apply during proper weather conditions—at least three days without rain, a minimum of one week before or after the last frost, and temperatures between 7°C and 27°C (45°F and 80°F).
  • Clean-up with soap and water is safe for surrounding vegetation.
